What is BLUFtext?

BLUFtext is a new way for you to help support BLUF, helping to raise money towards the cost of ruunning the main BLUF web site, while at the same time providing you with useful information about BLUF events in the UK and Europe. If you have a UK mobile phone (we’re sorry, but at the moment BLUFtext only works for UK mobiles), BLUFtext can send you reminders about BLUF parties in the UK or in the rest of Europe.

How does that help BLUF?

The messages we’ll send you are “reverse charged” which means that you pay a small charge - 25 pence per message - to receive them, of which BLUF receives around half. You can also make a one-off donation to BLUF via your mobile phone.

Will I receive junk text messages?

No. You will only receive messages regarding BLUF events, either in the UK or in the rest of Europe, and your details will not be passed to anyone else, or used for any other purpose.

OK, so how do I use it?

It’s very simple; BLUFtext works by sending messages from a UK mobile to the short code 60300. Every message starts with the keyword BLUF (you don’t have to use capitals). For a summary, send a message that says BLUF HELP to 60300. We’ll send you a response listing the other options available; for help and information like this, all you pay is your normal cost to send a text.

Keeping up to date with BLUF events

The main reason for using BLUFtext is to keep up to date with details of events in the UK or the rest of Europe. For each event, we’ll send you a reminder around one week before, and the day before the event starts, so that you always know when there’s a BLUF party coming up. At 25 pence for each message, that means it’ll cost you around 50p per event. If an event is for a whole weekend, we’ll only send you a single reminder, not one for each day. To start receiving messages, you send a subscription command, and you can choose to stop at any time. The texts you send to subscribe or unsubscribe cost your normal text message rate.

For events in the UK (presently around 7 a year), text BLUF UK START to 60300.

For events in the rest of Europe (presently around 25 a year), text BLUF EURO START to 60300.

In each case, you’ll receive a message explaining how you can unsubscribe, which won’t cost you anything. To comply with regulations regarding text messages, we will send you a monthly reminder, which won't cost you anything, in months when there is no BLUF event planned. To cancel your subscription you can send the message BLUF UK STOP or BLUF EURO STOP; the system will also understand if you say STOP BLUF EURO or STOP BLUF UK.

Don’t want to subscribe?

If you just want the details of the next BLUF event in the UK, without subscribing to ongoing updates, just send the message BLUF NEXT to 60300; you'll receive a message back which will cost you 50p, of which BLUF will get round half.

Making a donation

If you’d simply like to give BLUF a one-off donation, send the message BLUF DONATE. You’ll be charged your usual text message cost for sending the message, and when you receive our “Thank you” text, your mobile bill will be charged £5.00, of which BLUF will receive £3.29 - the rest is eaten up by the mobile phone companies and the VAT man.
